Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Hola Galeras,

I think about this so much. I’m super productive but I do burn out too. It’s natural. I read a lot all the time. So much self help and fictional books. I think it helps my mind expand. I feel like being constantly thinking is better than being constantly doing. It’s a war nonetheless. I’m as I say “always making”. So I get very depressed when I take time off but I know it’s easy to get brain fog when I over do it. The rule is for every painting I finish I take a day off. That could mean video games, books, walks, taking photos and watching movies with Alec and the cats. It’s hard but necessary.

I’ve broken too often to not take breaks.

What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months?

Halla galeras,

Every once while I get it with a good question. This one is One the kind of hit me in a deep space because I’m still struggling in a lot of ways to control my diabetes. So I have this fear that if I have to go on insulin with his current administration it may not be affordable for me and that’s kind of terrifying. A long time ago insulin was created by scientist and they gave it to the world for free and then pharmaceuticals decided they wanted to charge money once they got it. Typically it is not expensive but it has been on several occasions very expensive. So it’s the thing I’ll worry about or if it’s gonna be some type of unaffordable monster that’s like $400 a mile or whatever. Cause like what did the rest of us do when our life-saving medicine becomes too expensive and maybe we’re in danger? Having a late stage diabetes is one of those weird things where you get diagnosed with type to diabetes but then they find out you actually just have a late stage type One diabetes. it’s a little scary and I’m trying not to freak out everyone else around me while I think about it because they’re afraid for me. I think of all these great artists that all had diabetes throughout time it’s a very human disease and people think it’s something you do to get it in an actuality there’s really nothing you do you just kind of genetically have it. But that’s my my thing I worry about six months. I wanna have a life worth living.

Write about your first computer.

Hola galeras,

My first computer was an Apple Gs.

It had a blue jay blue screen with white letters. I used to play a game called World Games in it. Only had two buttons to do anything. I don’t know that I ever got good at it. I mostly play sumo wrestling and log throwing. Not sure I had ever seen anyone do either of them. This was pre internet in every home. We had to get a new computer to use AOL.

It stuck with me how fun and yet simple it was. Life wasn’t better but you were forced to read a lot more.

It was interesting.

A few decades later I got a computer and learned Photoshop. Just a very different time in between.

You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?

Hola Galeras,

So this question is an easy one for me. My studio exists. But, if I could make it perfect? I would buy a huge shipping container and deck it out. Lights, grid walls and lots of running long tables with bar stools as stations.

A spot in a bit of land near our home. Heated with a toilet inside as well as a dump sink.

So a few ideas I guess.

Big windows with … a bigger studio then mine now.

What is your favorite place to go in your city?

Hola Galeras,

Been a while since I did one of these.

Can I have been going to this little Japanese market in Rockville Maryland for a little while. It’s actually just very cute and useful. Lot of food a lot of like knickknacks. Just honestly fun.

Seems just a really nice place. There are chain so they have them all over. They kind of remind me of like why people go to like H Mart a little nerdier.

Daily writing prompt
Where did your name come from?

There are a few answers to that. My name is Jãwara. My father and mother wanted me to have a name that was of my birth culture. I think my father picked it out. It means a few things like silence, strength, and Thursday. I don’t know if I was born on a Thursday. I am a bit quiet until you get to know me. I have been strong most of my life.

If humans had taglines, what would yours be?

Hola Galeras,

Haven’t done one of these in forever. When I was in my 20’s I loved the word “infinite”. I thought about it as soon as I saw this question. I had this idea that I could make art and do my thing nonstop. As long as I moved forward it would go on forever. 20 years later I think #lagama is the one I use the most. It means “the line”. In what I remember of math class a line is infinite by definition. So I guess I kept that theme.

Often times I feel like a wave recycling it self at the beach. An endless cycling of making.

Write about your dream home.

Hola Galeras,

I get this question a lot because I have a studio. A dream home for me is simple, I really want a house that’s one story with a large studio space in the back.

When I was a young kiddo, I studied under a college art professor my mom knew. He has this stucco house with more studio than house and it was perfect. I think about that place all the time. I smelled of paint and paper. It was way too quiet for me at the time but now I would love it with Alec and the cats.

Something perfect about a dump sink to wash paint brushes.

I love looking at this magazine called Dwell. It has these over the top ideas for houses that blow my minds. Imagine if you will a house in the forest that has a roof that can filter rain water to make energy. It has beautiful little looks to it.

I think the cats would love some bigger bird watching windows.

And I want Alec to have a studio space of her own to decorate. She would just blossom with the perfect space as an artist.

She deserves so much more.

I think her dream home would have more trees. She is a forest girl for sure.

Just something perfect to have adventures in.

Later Galeras,

Thanks for the time.

The most important invention in your lifetime is…

Hmmmm…. In my mind I imagine something so grand and mysterious to be the answer but like most things it’s simple and useful.

I guess the cellphone/computer is the big answer. It has its drawbacks like writing took a hit but it connects people in a way. A lot of cultures had big ways of communication before the phone but it mixed all those things together.

I think about the Greenbook being a way Black Americans warned each other but the dangers of racist places when traveling could now just be a website for everyone to see. I think about translating apps connecting people from all over the world. I think about how social media has its good and bads but it connects people from everywhere.

I still think the spork is epic but the cellphone is a close second.

What would you say it is?

What’s your favorite cartoon?

Finally a question that gets to the meat and bones of who I am. 😂 no really, I love cartoons more than people.

My favorite is Adventure Time. It’s this weird cartoon about a kid and his dog in a world of magic and monsters. I didn’t love the art style but it grew on me.

It just sparked this idea in my mind of keeping hold of using my imagination. I have made a few random friends from that show. BMO the little Gameboy person is my favorite because they are insane.

We fully support madness here officially.

The songs from this show are life changing.

There is always something going on in the backgrounds.
