Q and a

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Hola Galeras,

I think about this so much. I’m super productive but I do burn out too. It’s natural. I read a lot all the time. So much self help and fictional books. I think it helps my mind expand. I feel like being constantly thinking is better than being constantly doing. It’s a war nonetheless. I’m as I say “always making”. So I get very depressed when I take time off but I know it’s easy to get brain fog when I over do it. The rule is for every painting I finish I take a day off. That could mean video games, books, walks, taking photos and watching movies with Alec and the cats. It’s hard but necessary.

I’ve broken too often to not take breaks.

  1. I wont complain too much about lazy days even if all i did was art the whole week. While the guilt is there, the patience to wait, give myself a break from the daily grind does help creativity. Btw. Im always impressed with artist who work with large format. Size does matter but i can barely fill a letter size and even will work on it a few days or weeks later. Patience it seems is the key…lol.

    1. I hear yeah. I don’t know any artist who don’t work full time jobs also. It’s all a balancing act. The brain is tired but still buzzing with ideas. The fear for me is if I’m not making with the ideas I might lose some of them. I have huge books filled with future paintings and projects. I think I feel like I’m wasting away sometimes when I should be painting.

      Thanks for the comment.
