Q and A
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

This in two was is not a shock and is very cliche but I love Halloween. I love movies like The Crow and Nightmare before Christmas. They were kind of my gather around the campfire films for me and my friends as teens. Even now when I think of it I want to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show. It just had all the cool costumes and special movie nights. It was silly, sexy and had candy. What’s not too like?

Slow build

Loving the start of this.
Q and A
What makes you nervous?

I have had this fear of success for a long time. When everyone is watching me do well in my art I get nervous. All the little mistakes I make to figure out things are on display. Funny thing is no one care about those things but me. It’s very silly, it’s all in my head.
I’m working on just making and not stopping to look around. I was better before I thought about all those things. Even if everyone notices and it’s not in my head, it shouldn’t really matter. I do it for the love of doing it first, and the success comes after.

Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

A very long time ago I was in a mall. Many years before COVID we went to malls. I haven’t been to one in forever. Being around lots of people gives me small panic attacks some times. I’m working on it. So at this mall, I see this older handsome big bearded Sikh man and we are both waiting for our wives trying on clothes. We just chatted up and it was just really pleasant. Two brown men joking about bullshit. Very nice day.
For those who are not aware of Sikh people.

This one is a huge part of my career. A gallery manager found me and asked to put on an art show for me. It wasn’t the best show but it was a big step.

Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

The big thing that I worked on myself was my style. I had to learn to love it. I hated it for so long because I wanted to draw and paint like others. The shapes were always wrong and the lines too wide. You have too learn too love your mistakes. I got to the point where I converted them into something beautiful. I’m still working on ignoring hate and love for what I do. Both can be hard stops if I over think about them. Just keep learning about yourself and show love.

Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.

My cousin (primo) is a huge basketball fan all my life. Most of the men in my family are about a foot taller then me. He could dunk at 13. I am yet to even touch the rim at 5’10. He used to put me on his shoulders and jump at the rim. It was so much fun at age 13. I remember it greatly. It was simple but sticks with me too this day.

Describe one positive change you have made in your life.

Geez, this one is a hard one. I have a hard time seeing my work in a positive light. I don’t think it’s negative by any means. I had this humble weapon beaten into my head.
I like to think I have brought a great deal of representation to my people in my art. I try to take away stigmas in language, features and hair types. It means a lot to me that people see themselves in art. Everyone should have that moment.
